Edenia Gallardo, Project Designer, Mitchell Wall Architecture and Design, Missouri Gateway Green Building Council Member since October 2019, Outreach & Engagement Committee Member
Description of your work in green building: I am passionate about green building concepts. As a Project Designer, I primarily design using best practices of sustainability on each architecture project at Mitchell Wall Architecture & Design. Whereas it is not always required by clients, sustainability inspires me when creating concepts and developing ideas, so I enjoy learning about new technologies and materials in green buildings. In addition, I truly believe optimal use of energy positively impacts our environment and communities.
Sustainability passion: I love the idea of recycling materials that are used either in the construction of sustainable buildings or in the fabrication of furniture for public spaces. In general, I find everything about the reuse of materials fascinating. I also like the fact that simply using local materials in any architecture project can mean a considerable reduction in CO2 emissions.
Most meaningful experience with MGGBC: My most meaningful experience with MGGBC has been volunteering in construction of sustainable projects. On top of that, I enjoy the time I spend with the MGGBC community at the State of the Council event every year. Surprisingly, at the State of the Council this year, I won a raffle for tickets to the Soccer Stadium for a St. Louis City SC game. That was fantastic!
What will most impact the future of green building: Education will most impact the future of green building. The more we spread the benefits of sustainable buildings, the more we will see people involved in green building projects.
Favorite LEED (or sustainability) Project: My favorite sustainability project is the Missouri Botanical Garden. I really love their commitment to sustainability. Furthermore, Missouri Botanical Garden is a great way to enjoy all seasons in a beautiful environment, and in St Louis!
Favorite place in the St. Louis region or Missouri Gateway GBC territory: My favorite place in the St. Louis region is the Pulitzer Arts Foundation. Located in St. Louis’s Grand Center Arts District, the Pulitzer Arts Foundation was designed by Tadao Ando and is a remarkable way to approach exceptional works of art, architecture, and landscape design. All in one place!
