Description of your work in green building: I help BR+A’s clients make great sustainable decisions for their projects. By focusing on lifecycle cost and flexibility to adapt buildings to be used as long as possible, we can help clients be more sustainable without significant upfront costs. This means that clients will prepare for decarbonization whether they are ready to address it today or in the future. In this way, we’re setting them up for success in the coming years.
Sustainability passion: My passion lies in helping project teams make smart decisions. If we can save energy by focusing on adjacencies and layout, as well as how buildings are stacked, then we don’t have to worry about expensive systems or offsets.
Most meaningful experience with MGGBC Chapter: I’ve really enjoyed my experience with the Engagement and Outreach Community. Being new to St. Louis, this group has really helped me get engaged in the community and make new friends outside of work.
What will most impact the future of green building: Reducing building loads. It feels like everyone wants to jump to discussions about renewables or value engineering energy recovery without first assessing how much energy can be saved by not using it in the first place.
Favorite LEED (or sustainability) Project:
Williamson Translational Research Building
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center
Lebanon, NH
This was my first experience with chilled beams on a complex laboratory project.
Favorite place in the St. Louis region or Missouri Gateway GBC territory: My favorite place in St. Louis is Forest Park. This is a gem to have such a large amenity in the city with so much to offer – from museums and monuments, entertainment, educational spaces, play spaces, heavily landscaped areas, and of course natural areas. I enjoy going back to my favorite areas, but I can also find something new every time I visit.
City Museum is also an amazing place and is close to my heart.
