Join us for our Annual Green Building Tour! This year, we will visit Soldiers Memorial, which earned LEED Gold in 2018. The careful renovation and restoration of this building began in 2013, was completed in 2018 and was led by the Missouri Historical Society. Please note the MORNING timing of this event!
Completed in 1938, Soldiers Memorial Military Museum was built to honor U.S. military veterans from St. Louis. In order to preserve this beloved landmark and museum, the Missouri Historical Society undertook its sustainable renovation and restoration in 2013. The project, which earned LEED Gold® in 2018, brought the museum up to modern building performance standards with energy efficient building systems and LED lighting, while also making it ADA-accessible for the first time. The project also aimed for and achieved significant waste minimization during interior and exterior restoration and upgrades through reuse of existing materials, use of environmentally responsible materials and diversion of construction waste. As part of the renovated vision for the museum, the exterior site and Court of Honor were re-designed as a key space fostering community connection and engagement. Since the renovation, the Missouri Historical Society has built on its waste reduction achievements during construction to set an example in its every-day operations, achieving TRUE (Total Resource Use & Efficiency) certification as a zero-waste facility. Don’t miss the opportunity to tour this unique site and hear in-depth about its sustainable renovation and operations!
