May: LEED and Upfront Carbon Emissions: A Comprehensive Look at A1-A5 Embodied Carbon in Building Construction

This education session from USGBC’s 2023 Decarbonization Summit explores strategies for adjusting workflow to make meaningful improvements in upfront carbon emissions (A1-A5) and how these strategies can achieve points under various LEED credits.

Our panel of experts will discuss LCA timeline and process integration, when EC3 should be utilized, and examples of actual carbon reduction materials on real-world projects. They will provide a detailed overview of a 2-year long electric construction equipment pilot that has been occurring in Iowa.

Projects are conditioned to complete LCA’s; however, new tools such as EC3 allow for more detailed and on-going conversations that can yield even greater results in reductions. The session explores the nuances of LCA software, hand-off to tools like LCA, and tracking A5 emissions.
