St. Louis City SC’s Energizer Park Awarded LEED Gold Certification

Congratulations to MGGBC annual sponsor St. Louis City SC! In recognition of City SC’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, Energizer Park has been awarded LEED Gold certification for Operations & Maintenance by the U.S. Green Building Council. Your commitment to sustainable operations sets a new standard for our region and exemplifies what’s possible to achieve even at a large-scale sports venue.

From the start, St. Louis CITY SC wanted to make sustainability a core part of their club’s identity and commitment to St. Louis. From prioritizing green building strategies in the design of Energizer Park to its sustainable operations, CITY SC aimed to both reduce environmental impact and inspire greater environmental stewardship in its fan base and the region.

In April of 2024, CITY SC launched their Goal: ZERO initiative to reach zero waste status by diverting more than 90% of all waste produced at its MLS matches away from the landfill. In 2024, CITY SC diverted an average of 90.3% of waste away from the landfill, including composting over 42 tons, and has achieved zero waste status for all its home 2025 MLS matches.

The LEED Gold O+M certification recognizes Energizer Park for these holistic efforts, including its robust commitment to zero waste, efficient energy and water management systems, access to public transit and bike/pedestrian facilities, and indoor air quality. The recognition is the first for a St. Louis sporting venue and among only a few MLS soccer-specific stadiums with the distinction.

St. Louis CITY SC announced their LEED Gold O+M status at their April 19th “Sustainability Match” in celebration of Earth Day. MGGBC Executive Director Emily Andrews was invited to attend the game and give the Spotlight Interview to discuss Energizer Park’s LEED recognition. Missouri Gateway Green Building Council is proud to count St. Louis CITY SC as a sponsor and to have Joe Abernathy VP of Stadium Operations as a Board Member. Join us in celebrating these awesome accomplishments!
