Andrew M. Boerschig, Facility Solutions Project Manager, Guarantee Electrical, Member since 2023, Green Schools Mentor 2023-2025
Description of your work in green building: As a Facility Solutions Project Manager with Guarantee Electrical Company based out of our Granite City, Illinois office, I bring over 12+ years of experience in delivering successful energy efficient commercial and industrial lighting and controls projects for our key clients in Missouri, Illinois, and across the country. The Facility Solutions Group at Guarantee is truly a “boutique” unit focused on developing long-term relationships with direct end-user clients. By offering specialty turn-key solutions in lighting, controls, EV charging, and service, we aim to establish long-lasting relationships with our clients, becoming their trusted single source for any electrical, lighting, low-voltage, solar, preventative maintenance, and service needs going forward. Our Facility Solutions Team prides itself on “ultimate” customer service, always willing to go above and beyond for our clients to deliver successful projects.
I am currently partnering with MGGBC on their Green Schools Quest program. I am the mentor for two (2) schools this year, Althoff Catholic High School in Belleville, IL and Margaret Buerkle Middle School in the Mehlville School District in St. Louis, MO. I am supporting each class and guiding the students on how to build their own energy efficiency project for their schools, specifically lighting controls and solar energy this year!
Sustainability passion: My sustainability passion is to not only provide industry and market-leading energy efficient facility solutions for our direct end-user clients, but also improve overall lighting levels (interior & exterior) for both their employees and customers. This leads to increased security on-site, all while providing substantial month over month, year over year energy and maintenance savings, putting cash in hand for our clients. Our goal is to listen to our customers’ needs and goals, and provide them the best possible solutions for their given project, which will lead to immediate results across the board. It’s not only about talking about sustainability, it’s about actually successfully executing out in the field every single day of the year!
Most meaningful experience with MGGBC Chapter: My most meaningful experience partnering with MGGBC has been my work through the Green Schools Quest program! Not many people know that, after graduating high school, I went to college with the goal of becoming a high school teacher and coach. Needless to say, life threw some difficult punches and hard challenges along my journey in life, which lead to me unexpectedly becoming a self-taught lighting professional over the last 12+ years, instead of a teacher as I had originally planned. These experiences taught me to always be flexible and agile not only in my career, but in life as a whole, especially in my most important roles as a dad and husband. My work with the Green Schools Quest program has allowed me to “scratch the itch” to teach students and work in a classroom, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to do so!
What will most impact the future of green building: I feel the most impact for the future of green buildings will be “balance” in moving towards the future. Balancing the ever-growing electrification across our market, which puts a strain on our ever-taxed electrical grid, with continuing to provide real-world and realistic energy efficiency solutions for commercial and industrial facilities across the country. Keeping these two competing aspects in constant balance in the future will help us to continue to grow within our markets, while supporting our clients and industry as a trusted source to take these ideas from concept to actual completion on-site. Less talk and more action in 2025 and beyond!
Favorite LEED (or sustainability) Project: My favorite sustainability project within my career came last year in 2024. Our Guarantee Electrical Team of Professionals partnered with our clients at The Dome at America’s Center in Downtown St. Louis to help support their new energy efficient LED sports lighting and networked lighting controls in the facility. We removed 400 “old legacy” inefficient HID fixtures, while installing 225 new energy efficient LED fixtures with networked lighting controls. This lead to an approximate 40% reduction in the customers yearly energy usage and regular maintenance costs, all while increasing their light levels by over 50% across the board, which was the clients most important goal for the project! Our team of industry-leading professionals with GECO was able to provide a logistical plan that our in-field team could safely execute for the customer on-site in their requested timeframe. This lead to a truly successful project for all parties involved, and delivered a true masterpiece that we can all be proud of, not only for ourselves, but also for our St. Louis community as a whole!
Favorite place in the St. Louis region or Missouri Gateway GBC territory: My favorite areas within the MGGBC territory center around our Missouri and Illinois clients that we are consistently serving on a regular basis. But specifically, I’m biased to the area that me and my family call “home,” which is the Mehlville area in South County near Jefferson Barracks & Sylvan Springs Park. We are blessed to live in the same neighborhood I grew up in my whole life and to have my parents only 3 houses away from us, which allows us to have a “shared household” in which we all work to help and support each other as a family every day. As the only child, being able to provide support to my aging parents is paramount, especially with my father having early onset Alzheimer’s and dementia. Plus, seeing my daughters being able to grow up with their grandparents so close is a true blessing, one which we will not fully appreciate until many years from now. This area is quiet, safe, and rich in history, nestled in nature within the bustling county – it’s truly a diamond in the rough within our community that we are proud to call Home! Our family is active with our local Mehlville School District, as our daughters continue their educational journeys over the next handful of years, and we want to help support the district to continue their amazing work for their students for countless years to come.
