Shout out to Maplewood Richmond Heights Middle School!
Maplewood Richmond Heights Middle School eight graders are making an impact through their project “Bee the Change at MRH” as part of the 2024-25 Green Schools Quest on the theme of Biodiversity & Wellness.
Eight graders at Maplewood Richmond Heights Middle School (MRHMS) stepped up to steward their school’s bee program and ensure it remains sustainable for years to come. The students continued to expand the success and impact of this living project in multiple ways. They designed a new home on campus for their beehives that will allow them to thrive for years to come. They enhanced the campus with new native plantings to benefit bees and people. And, they educated young students in the district about how to care for bees and why they are so vital to the planet, nurturing the next generation of beekeepers! This student-led project was developed with the leadership and guidance of Melissa Breed-Parks, Teacher at MRHMS (School Leader). As a long-time Green Schools Quest participant, Maplewood Richmond Heights also provides valuable insights and guidance as a mentor to new schools!
Project Impact:
- 12 students / 2 faculty directly involved
- 100 students / 56 faculty/staff impacted beyond direct participants
- 830 community members impacted
Thank you Maplewood Richmond Heights Middle School team for your impact connecting people, places and planet with your project “Bee the Change at MRH”!
About the Green Schools Quest: A Project-Based Challenge
This Green Schools Quest program, which is a part of the Show-Me Green Schools suite, invites PreK-12 schools in Missouri and Southern Illinois to devise and implement creative, effective and no/low-cost sustainability practices at their school with the help of a school leader and Green Mentor. Teams engage in their chosen sustainability project from October through March and submit their outcomes for a chance to win cash prizes. Join us in celebrating these awesome achievements!
Celebrate this year’s winners with us at our Annual Green Schools Event on Wednesday, April 16th!
