Join your Missouri Gateway Green Building Council for an in-person Green Building Break and an opportunity to tour and learn about the sustainability aspects of the new Clark Family Branch of the St. Louis County Library.
Designed by Lamar Johnson Collaborative, the two-story, 74,000 square foot library was designed to respond to the evolving role of the library as a vibrant community and gathering space. This can be seen in a variety of new community and learning spaces, including an event space with seating for up to 800, a children’s space, a history and genealogy center with a Memory Lab to record family histories, a high-tech creative lab for teens, and a small business center.
In addition to designing for flexibility so the building can respond to the evolving needs of patrons over time, the library incorporates other green features that foster a healthier environment both inside and out. Outside, native landscaping, sustainable irrigation and storm water management, walking and biking infrastructure and access to public transit promote biodiversity, connection to nature, physical activity and environmentally-friendly transit. Inside, building orientation, clerestory windows and floor openings allow natural light to penetrate the core of the building, while recycled materials, LED lighting, high efficiency toilets, and building automation help conserve water and energy and minimize the health and environmental impacts of the building.
Join us next Friday to learn more about the Library and experience it for yourself! For those who are able, we’ll meet for lunch after the tour at Companion Bakery and Cafe nearby.
In 2024, our Coffee Break Series will transition to a slightly longer Green Building Break Series. These sessions will take place on the 3rd or 4th Fridays from 12:00pm-1:00pm.
